Boring People

I don't want to be boring and I'll bet, if you think about it, you feel the same way. I wondered to myself what qualities make people boring. Yes, I know that sounds boring but hear me out, if you can see it, you can avoid it in yourself and in others. When you recognize a bore from one of these scenarios, you can now, quickly and politely, excuse yourself. Even if the bore is you!

Definition: A bore is a person who deprives you of solitude without providing you with company.

1. Boring people have unbalanced conversations.

Give and take people! A conversation should be a mix of listening and talking and it should have some sort of rhythm based on give and take.

2. Boring people can't tell if others are engaged in the conversation.

Body language is a good indicator as to how interested people are. If someone appears ready to bolt, you are probably boring them!

3. Boring people can not make other people laugh.

Cognitive flexibility lets you assess an idea from different angles and make light of it. Others are not always interested in deep conversation.

4. Boring people don't have opinions or beliefs that they share.

If you think critically, you do actually have opinions. If you aren't sharing them in conversation, that's one thing, but if you say you don't have any: you're being kind of dull.

5. Boring people don't include anybody in the conversation.

Why not draw people in to your conversation? Do you really think people want to stand around listening to only you? Well, trust me, they do not and you are a bore.

If you recognize yourself in any of these scenarios and you are the perpetrator, and I have seen myself here, you can change and please do! What other signs of a bore have you noticed?
